Literacy Using new Primary framework: • Read independently and with increasing fluency longer and less familiar texts • Spell with increasing accuracy and confidence, drawing on word recognition and knowledge of word structure, and spelling patterns • Make adventurous word and language choices appropriate to the style and purpose of the text Spellings: Year 2words from Literacy Strategy then from SATs spelling tests then topic words Writing: Different styles e.g. letter, invitation, poetry, recount, non – fiction etc Reading: At home about 10 mins a day Children choose own book from box Emphasis on meanings of words, questions about story particularly why to aid understanding & review story so far if reading book in sections Group reading once a week with emphasis on comprehension Speaking & Listening: Boy/Girl of the Week

Numeracy • Using new Primary framework: • Solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication or division in contexts of numbers, measures or pounds and pence • Use the symbols +, -, ×, ÷ and = to record and interpret number sentences involving all four operations; calculate the value of an unknown in a number sentence (e.g. ÷ 2 = 6, 30 - = 24) 7 strands: Using & Applying Counting & Understanding Number Knowing & Using Number Facts Calculating Understanding Shape Measuring Handling Data Emphasis on different methods
