  2. Day 1 – Why is reading important ? Do you agree? How can you exercise your mind without reading?

Day 1 – True or false? • 10 to 16 year-olds who read for pleasure do better at school. • Regular reading can reduce the risk of dementia by 35%. • Reading can reduce stress levels by 68%. • Reading is one of our most popular pastimes in Britain - it's more popular than gardening, going to the cinema, going to the theatre and concerts and doing DIY.

  4. Day 2 – discuss the following quotation “Every hour spent reading is an hour spent learning to write” How can reading improve your writing?

  5. Day 3 – do you agree? “the digital world is centred around the written word”. Those who struggle to read and write are at a catastrophic disadvantage.
