The Earth. The Earth contains 3 layers. Crust Magma (upper & lower mantle) Core. Crust. The Earth is divided into 9 large plates and several smaller ones. These plates are called tectonic plates. These plates are not fixed, they float on top of mantle. Tectonic plates.
