  2. Vision Statement The College of Education is committed to indigenous, intercultural, and international teaching, learning, research and service experiences for all students, faculty and staff.

  3. Mission • Encouraging students, faculty and staff to view indigenous, • intercultural and international teaching and learning experiences • as opportunities to challenge their own world view, values and • beliefs. • Travel and other teaching, learning and research experiences • associated with indigenous, intercultural, and international • activities holds intrinsic value for student development • (transformations), funds will be sought to support the travel of • all students on a needs basis. • Indigenous, intercultural, and international teaching and learning • experiences should be assessed for the accomplishment of the • value proposed for the specific project, as well as for its match • with the University’s Vision and Global Education Strategic Plan • and the COE’s Vision and Global Education Vision.

  4. GOALS

  5. Increase indigenous, intercultural and international teaching and learning experiences for students that align with the College of Education’s mission and vision. GOAL 1:

  6. Objectives

  7. Objective 1.1: Invite the Center for International Studies to make regular and ongoing presentations on International Universities including where we have partnership agreements.

  8. Explore the possibility of expanding the university-wide International Studies Committee to include greater representation from the COE, including students. Objective 1.2:

  9. Invite yearly inservice updates from the Center for International Studies (CIS) and the International Studies Committee (ISC) for the departments in the COE, including clarification on the roles of the CIS and ISC. Objective 1.3:

  10. Objective 1.4: Develop an addendum to SCSU Policies and Procedures Manual to include indigenous, intercultural, and international teaching, learning, research and service experiences.

  11. Promote faculty member support and flexibility in program requirements and scheduling for students who are in approved university sponsored indigenous, intercultural and international teaching, learning, research and service experiences. Objective 1.5:

  12. Utilize a tool to prioritize proposed indigenous, intercultural, and international teaching and learning opportunities for COE students. Objective 1.6:

  13. Objective 1.7: Collaborate with the Office of Clinical Experience to develop and implement indigenous, intercultural, international teaching and learning experiences for students.

  14. Explore, in partnership with Center for International Studies, two levels of program development: • Sustainable long term programs, • and • 2) Opportunistic/discovery • program experiences that can • be approved and implemented • in an expedited manner. Objective 1.8:

  15. Develop Masters of Science in indigenous, intercultural, and international critical pedagogy housed in the College of Education. Objective 1.9:

  16. Objective 1.10: Each department/program should develop study abroad recommendations for their majors that allow students to complete indigenous, intercultural and international experience without delaying graduation.

  17. Promote the expectation among our students and faculty that students, regardless of socio-economic status and degree, will have an indigenous, intercultural and international experience. Objective 1.11:

  18. Develop plan to raise external funding to off-set costs associated with indigenous, intercultural and international experiences for students. Objective 1.12:

  19. Objective 1.13: Seek out opportunities to collaborate with other MnSCU institutions to offer indigenous,Intercultural and international experiences for students.

  20. GOAL 2: To increase and promote III experiences that will strengthen and enhance Intercultural competencies and international experiences for faculty and staff.

  21. OBJECTIVES

  22. Objective 2.1: Build into searches for new faculty, staff, and administrators the preference for people with evidence of indigenous, intercultural, and international experience, critical analysis and multiple languages. Recommend that this be standard language for job postings and position descriptions for all COE positions.

  23. Incorporate faculty outcomes into the academic plan for RPT process that are linked to global education and experience that reflects the COE vision and work. Objective 2.2:

  24. Objective 2.3: Explore the development of an Institute or Center in the COE for Global Education.

  25. Explore ways to expand options for staff to gain indigenous, intercultural and international experience that strengthen faculty’s ability in critical analysis of current issues in the world relevant to our students. Objective 2.4:

  26. GOAL 3: To increase and promote internationalization of the curriculum within the COE.

  27. OBJECTIVES

  28. OBJECTIVE 3.1: Encourage all majors and minors to have a focus on substantive indigenous, intercultural and international experiences that align with our COE Global Vision.

  29. OBJECTIVE 3.2: Work with the General Education Committee in promoting the consideration for including a global education course designation in the Multicultural, Gender and Minority MGM (human relations) requirements, transitioning to MGMG Multicultural, Gender, Minority and Global requirements.

  30. OBJECTIVE 3.3: Advocate for a world language requirement for graduation for students in COE that includes opportunities in critical languages.

  31. Advocate the inclusion of a Global requirement that includes an indigenous, intercultural, and international teaching and learning experiences for all majors from the COE. OBJECTIVE 3.4:
