Message from the Chairman Sumitomo shall achieve strength and prosperity by placing prime importance on integrity and sound management in the conduct of its business. Sumitomo shall manage its activities with foresight and flexibility in order to cope effectively with the changing times. Under no circumstances, however, shall it pursue easy gains or act imprudently. These principles reflect the spirit of the business precepts originally expounded around 1650 by the first head of the Sumitomo family and have proved their everlasting freshness over three and a half centuries of Sumitomo's business activities. I would stay with these principles in the future also because I believe that the solid business philosophy is even more vital in the changing and dynamic times. Sumitomo Corporation Europe, with about 326 members of staff at 13 offices in Europe and more members at our subsidiary companies is an integral part of Sumitomo Corporation Group which provides business foundation on global basis, combining international business network of 158 offices, enduring partnerships with over 100,000 direct counterparts, high expertise and deep know-how accumulated in diversified business areas and strong reputation as a responsible enterprise. Being backed by this foundation, I can offer my commitment that Sumitomo Corporation Europe shall serve our customers with a divert portfolio of quality functions, integrating our capabilities to create new businesses; to maximise our capabilities in Financial, Logistic, and Information Technologies; and to identify solutions to a broad range of related risks.
