  2. Biography -- Tim Horton (1930-1974) Tim Horton was born in Cochran, Ontario on January 12, 1930. In 1949 he was drafted to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was quickly recognized for his very exceptional defensemen skills. He played 17 full season and 3 partial seasons for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The first Tim Hortons franchise opened in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario. Serving only two products; coffee and donuts. On February 21, 1974 Tim Horton died in a tragic car crash.   3. A Major contribution to Tim Hortons success came from one man, named Ron Joyce. Although Tim Hortons major success did not occur until after Tim Hortons tragic death. When Tim Horton died, all of this possessions were left to his widow. She was under a lot of stress at the time and Ron Joyce offered to buy the remaining Tim Horton shares off her for a million dollars. Today There are more than 2,200 Tim Horton stores across Canada, and approximately 160 locations in the United States.
