Objectives of IACT418/918 • Explore the uses of telecommunications by businesses • Understand the current status and future directions of telecommunications regulatory environment • Discuss the strategic management issues and the options created by emerging technologies • Develop documentation to support organisational requirements for a telecommunications network

  10. A Few Rules • Satisfactory attendance is a requirement of Uni enrolment • Failure to comply can result in a fail grade being recorded • Satisfactory attendance is 80% of the allocated contact hours • * Tutors will take an attendance roll in each class *

  11. A Few Rules • The University requires two (2) hours per week of your time PER CREDIT POINT • [Course Rule 003 {Interpretation Point 2 (t)}]

A Few Rules • IACT 918 is a 6 credit point subject requiring 12 hours per week over a thirteen week session of your time • This includes lectures/tutorials/labs etc. • So, in IACT918 you are expected to spend a total of 156 hrs on this subject • If you don’t put in the time, don’t expect a high result.

A Few Rules • This is a Masters level subject • YOU are expected & required to conduct independent learning • If there is something you do not know enough about, go to the ‘net or the library and FIND OUT for yourself! • Any information posted to the subject website site is deemed to have been notified to all students • Stay in touch with recent developments.

  14. A Few Rules • Please note that marks may be scaled • Please note that satisfactory performance in the final exam is a requirement to pass the subject

A Few More Rules • Reports and other assessment tasks are to be submitted/taken during your tutorial class • Penalties will apply to all late work, except in the case of protracted (and certified) illness • One mark will be deducted for work for each day it is overdue – total loss of marks after 1 week • No assessment work will be accepted in electronic form onlyA hard copy is required

A Few More Rules • All assignments must be submitted with a school cover page with information completed • The receipt section will be returned to students as their guarantee of submission upon handing it to the tutor • Assessment items will be returned to students during tutorials. • Plagiarism may result in a FAIL grade being recorded for that assessment task.

  18. During this week • You will be RANDOMNLY formed into groups,for the major project report • NO, you cannot change, you cannot swap – don’t bother asking • You will be formed into PAIRS for the seminar presentation • You will be RANDOMNLY assigned a seminar topic and presentation date

  19. Your Tutorial Classes • Your first two tutorial classes will be used for seminar presentation • The final tutorial will include a review lecture and your final milestone quiz

Group Work • Your final report MUST include a clear description of which group members produced which components • Put an individual students name in the footer of each page of the report • If your tutor cannot identify who produced what, then it may not be possible to assign individual marks accurately • In other words – if you want full credit for your work in the individual 10%, then work with your group and be sure your tutor knows about it !
