  1. Wikis By RhiandaShanklin, Kelly Hayes, Meghan Barone, & Sarah Wells

  2. Wikis Overview • A wiki is used to collaboratively develop a website without web programming knowledge. Any member of the wiki community can add and edit work on the wiki. • The wiki is constantly changing, and it allows for ongoing development and communication between the members of the community. Wikis are a fast and easy way to develop a website with others.

  3. Wikis Overview cont. • Wikis can be expanded to other pages by creating links. This allows for organization as well as further information for those involved in the wiki community. • Wiki actually means "quick" in Hawaiian!

  4. Features/ Functions • used for collaborative website building • group project planning • focus on community collaboration • encourages the free exchange of ideas • creating and editing text • links to other websites • easy access for all! (even parents)

  5. Educational Examples • Educational Wiki Examples: • PBwikihttp://pbwiki.com • Writeboard (one page wiki) http://www.writeboard.com/ • Wet Paint http://www.wetpaint.com/

  7. References • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WikiThe most well-known wiki of all. Explains what a wiki is. • http://computer.howstuffworks.com/wiki.htmThis website goes more into detail about how to use wikis for whatever purpose. • http://techessence.info/socialsoftware/wikiThis website explains basic information about wikis. It also lists many examples of wikis and who they are useful for. • http://www.wikiineducation.com/display/ikiw/Ways to use wiki in educationThis website includes many useful ideas for using wikis in the classroom. It really focuses on how useful wikis are when collaborating with a group. • http://www.slideshare.net/cliotech/wikispaces-tutorial-306220/This is a slide show that goes through all the steps of signing up for a wiki space, and creating your very first wiki. I thought it was easy to read and very beneficial to learning about wikis. • http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=d9607ee5a9d336962c53This is a video which gives basic instructions for using wiki spaces for the first time. • http://wiki.org/wiki.cgi?WhatIsWikiGood definition of a WIKI and give sites to explore the history and more. • http://brainstormsandraves.com/archives/2003/09/06/whats_a_wiki/This is a blog that has many videos and sites to visit that talk about WIKIS. Good to use if looking for information on the whole idea. • http://www.wikihow.com/Main-PageThis is a how to manual that you can edit. This is more of a how to manual for every day situations, NOT a how to use a WIKI.
