ABOUT GRIPS • Established in 1997 by the Japanese government • Superseded Graduate School of Policy Science (GSPS) at Saitama University, the first graduate school for Policy Studies in Japan • Aims to educate future leaders in the policy arena • Majority of students work for ministries or government-related offices

  3. GRIPS FEATURES • Main disciplines: Economics, Political Science International Relations, Civil Engineering • 8 international programs • 5 domestic programs and, • 6 Ph.D. programs • Disciplines and programs are intertwined • All International Programs taught in English

GRIPS FEATURES • 333 students enrolled, as of 1 Oct, 2007 (Master 270, Ph.D. 63) • Around 2000 alumni, from some 65 countries • Majority are international students (67% in 2006) • Close relationships with government ministries • Former GRIPS professor appointed as cabinet minister • Many (former) government officials are teaching at GRIPS

  5. FUTURE DIRECTIONS • To accept a more diverse range of students • ・new graduates from colleges and non-government sector • To strengthen the Ph.D. programs • To become a center of excellence in policy studies and gain broader international recognition

  8. PROGRAM FEATURES • Integrated Master’s and Doctorate Course • Policy analysis based on Economics and Econometrics • Full scholarships available for outstanding candidates • Unique opportunities to interact with policy practitioners • All courses are taught in English

  11. WHO SHOULD APPLY? • Holders of bachelor’s and/or master’s degree • Interested in a career as researcher and analyst of economic and development issues • No prior work experience required!
