Capabilities: Prepares/maintains essential combat routes in the brigade area; assists in assault of fortified positions; assists maneuver units in assault breach of obstacles; obstacle breach operations; field engineering advice, assistance, and limited equipment capability to maneuver elements to construct fighting positions for individuals and weapon systems; emplaces and/or assists in the emplacement of mines; creates obstacles to delay enemy mobility including berms, ditches, log/timber obstacles, and wire entanglements; prepares targets for demolition; carries out demolitions if required; when required, fights as Infantry. Capabilities:Organic force protection and mobility support; limited countermobility, survivability and sustainment engineering support by taking risk in force protection and mobility support; reduction assets for existing natural and reinforcing obstacles in open, rolling terrain, complex terrain and urban environments; medium weight bridging assets for limited wet and dry gap crossing; Engineer Reconnaissance Teams to augment the RSTA Squadron by taking risk in force protection and mobility support; emplaces and provides technical assistance in the emplacement of mines; advice to maneuver commanders on employment of scatterable mines; and performs combat infantry missions in the role of Infantry. Reinforces engineers in Maneuver BCTs. Capabilities: Provides training readiness and oversight of assigned sapper platoons; Provides battle command for 3-5 sapper, assault, obstacle, clearance, or tactical bridge platoons operating as an EMT in the execution of mobility, countermobility, survivability missions; Improve lane markings in the BCT area; Can provide 660 manhours/day for general construction labor tasks to vertical, horizontal, or light construction companies during general engineering missions. Provides necessary level of engineer mission command to mission-tailored Bdesor Engineer Brigades at Division or Corps. Augments BCTs with focused engineer mission command if engineer task organization or scope of mission requires. Mission readiness of assigned companies and modules in the engineer force pool. Capabilities: Ensures mission readiness of 5-7 assigned companies/other modules in the force pool in garrison. As Engineer Mission Force, provides tailorable and scalable engineer mission command for 3-7 company sized engineer mission teams assigned to Support Bdesor Engineer Brigades. Has two deployable CPs to exercise mission command over dispersed locations or to augment the BTB of BCTs. Receives Design/ Survey and Explosive Hazard Teams from an Engineer Brigade to execute construction or explosive hazard clearance missions. Assignment (Echelon): Assigned to Engineer Brigades at Corps to accomplish Army Service Component Command missions or to Support Bdes at Division to accomplish operational and tactical mobility missions. Section I TOE BOA: 1 per 3 - 5 engineer companies in LR 1 - 2 in support of division; 1 per 3 - 7 engineer companies in LR 3 - 4 in support of Corps Capability Trace:Bn HQs of EN Corps Wheeled, Corps Mechanized, Corps Airborne, Corps Light Battalions, and HHD EN Bn Doctrinal Link/Rule Rationale: Theater Protection Command Concept; FM 5-34. • Issue: Reduced number of Engineer Battalions in the Regiment • Discussion: Future Engineer Force Battalion HQ was designed with greater capability than current HQs… specifically, increase the span of control • Applied to TAA, increasing the span of control to 5-7 companies will reduce the number of Engineer HQs • In the aggregate, this may be OK given direction of BTBs and ME • But, it may reduce flexibility and increase OPTEMPO of Engineer HQs • Recommendation: Stay the course…have aggressive strategic communications plan to the Regiment • Rule of Allocation: 1 per 3-5 eng companies in LR1-2 in support of Division. 1 per 3-7 eng companies in LR3-4 in support of Corps.
