  1. Mrs. Rowland’s Final Lesson

  2. THANK YOU • I have loved working with the freshmen!

  3. Self Esteem • Your haters are your haters and are just noise that get in the way of your fullest potential. You were put on this earth to achieve your fullest potential. • Be sure that you surround yourself with people that get and appreciate who you are. • Make sure your self-talk is positive • What are some things that you can say to yourself to help you ignore your haters

  4. Conflict • A good friend is worth a little conflict!

  5. Handling Conflict • DRA • Describe • Describe what specifically is bothering you • Try to keep the discussion to current issues, not events that occurred years ago or things that have been going on for a long time that they now finally have the courage to bring up. • Request • Request what you do or do not want from the other person. The request must be reasonable • Affirm • Affirm the person and or your relationship • Examples: • I really value you as a friend, but the way you are treating me is affecting our relationship • You are a great person and I enjoy our friendship, so hopefully you will respect me enough to stop doing this.

  6. Role Play -Pick a Partner One person needs to be a parent Pretend to ask you parent for something and switch

  7. Items to Remember • This works better one on one, not if front of people • The other person may not be ready to resolve things. • The emotion of anger takes a lot more energy than simply being kind or resolving conflict with intellect • A respectful manner and calm manner will help the other person know that they care • Reconciliation may not always be possible, we only control 50 % • Taken from the STEP UP PROGRAM

  8. Goal Setting • Always feel like you are never done and you will succeed. • Have School and Personal Goals • Should be manageable • Open a word documents and set 5 Personal and School/Extracurricular Goals • Save in your Guidance File on U Drive • Share with one person!
