Climates of Central America and the Caribbean • Tropical wet and dry climates are typical. • Central American climates follow terrain—tropical humid climates on the Caribbean coast, highland climates in the elevated interior, rain shadows on the direr western slopes. • Biomes=Tropical Animals, Tropical Plants • Mangrove-Trees that grow on the coastline, roots grow into the sea water

  8. The Panama Canal and Deforestation are two ways that humans have altered the natural environment of Latin America.

  9. What is the difference between commercial agriculture and subsistence agriculture?

  10. Ecotourism – type of tourism focusing on guided travel through natural areas and on outdoor activities. How do you think ecotourism might benefit Latin American countries like Costa Rica?

  11. NAFTA: North American Free Trade Agreement • an agreement signed by the governments of the United States, Canada, and Mexico creating a trilateral trade bloc in North America. The agreement came into force on January 1, 1994 • Maquiladoras: Mexican factories that take in imported raw materials and produce goods for export. They have become the landmark of trade in Mexico.
