  4. What is a flexible reader? Flexible readers modify their reading rates and their choice of strategies to fit different kinds of texts for different purposes.

  6. Reading strategies for Informational Texts: • Skimming • Scanning • Precise Reading

  7. Skimming- Gain an overview or a general idea of the text (800-1000wpm)

  8. How to Skim • You want to get an overall idea about the contents of the article. • Practice reading quickly to get a main idea. • Focus on title, headings and subheadings as you slowly turn the pages. • Think about the focus of the article as you skim over highlighted text, charts, images and captions. • Read the first and last lines of paragraphs; focus on introduction and conclusion of the text.
