Stand next to the Color of the statement you most agree with • The right to own a gun/firearm of any kind should be made illegal -- Blue • The right to Bear Arms is a constitutional right for every U.S. citizen– Purple • Background checks and requirements to own a gun should be in place in every state -- Yellow

  3. Timeline of Events so far… • May 5, 1789 - Estates General assembled for the first time in 175 years. Louis XVI decides to raise taxes for 1st and 2nd estates. • June 17, 1789 – The third estate is locked out of the meeting and declares itself the National Assembly. • June 20, 1789 – Bastille is stormed (response to Louis placing troops throughout Paris) • October, 1791- France’s first Constitution is established with 3 branches and a limited monarchy. Louis tries to escape and get help from other absolute monarch! He and family are held under lock and key in Paris.

Legislative Assembly Lasts a Year and consists of: • Conservatives- who sit on the RIGHT of the hall and want a king (to preserve status quo) with limited authority • Later: Consist of Girondists; republicans who fear the domination of Paris (mostly from the district “Gironde” in southwest France. • Radicals who sit on the LEFT of the hall and want to get rid of the king and set up a republic (want big change) • Later: Consist of Jacobins; republicans who want Paris to dominate (like Robespierre and Danton). • Moderates who sit in the MIDDLE of the hall and have no strong views wither way. • Later: side with the Jacobins • A Political Spectrum is Born!

April of 1792- the Legislative Assembly responds to the Declaration of Pillnitz (Prussia calls on European powers to declare war if Louis XVI is threatened and Austria states it would go to war if and only if all the other major European powers would also go to war with France) this is misunderstood by the Legislative Assembly who then declare war on Austria. • January of 1793- Louis XVI is beheaded with the guillotine and Armed Parisians wearing long pants (they are sans-culottes) and calling themselves The Commune (community/collective classes) take over! • New Fashion for Men in the West Begins!

  7. Reign of Terror Begins • September 1793-1794- Reign of Terror = systematic suppression (murder) of all opposition. • - Guillotine is used to behead ALL those suspected of being disloyal to the revolution!
