  1. Evangelism 101 Lesson 2 Developing Interest

  2. Introduction • A major part of the process of evangelism is developing sufficient interest in a person. • John 4 records an encounter between Jesus and a Samarian woman. • From this text, we can learn a number of important principles about personal evangelism.

  3. 1. Contact The Lost Socially. • John 4:1-4 • We will never be effective in evangelism if we limit our contact with them. • Matt. 11:28-30; Luke 5:27-32; 1 Cor. 5:9-11; Pro. 18:24 • Matt. 5:16; Gal. 5:22-23 • Where can we find prospects to evangelize?

  4. 2. Establish A Common Interest • John 4:5-8 • The goal is to establish a bridge for the purpose of communication. • We must seek to understand them – 1 Cor. 9:19-23

  5. 3. Arouse Interest • John 4:9-15 • Jesus offers her something that she does not have but sorely needs (Spiritual Water). • Ask open questions can help to arouse interest. • An open question is a question that cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. • Open questions require greater thought and reasoning .

  6. 4. Be Willing To Confront • John 4:19-26 • People will never experience the need for Jesus until they recognize they are lost. • Matt. 7:21-23 • Examples in the N.T. • Matt. 19:16-22 • Acts 2:36 • Gal. 3:1
