From the Gospel of St Luke 4, 18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me;because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor,He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives, and recovery of sight to the blind; to set free the oppressed,and announce that the time has come when the Lord will save his people”

  3. The objective of JPIC animation and job of a Promoter is: to remind his brothers and sisters in religious life that evangelization and mission, without a JPIC perspective, cannot be authentic and to help them achieve an integration.

Vatican 11 recognizing the lack of involvement of the People of God in the social area, recommended the creation of : “a universal organism in the Church, having as its function to stimulate the catholic community towards the promotion of the development of poor countries and international social justice” (GS 90).

Difficulties in JPIC Animation • A non-violent gospel methodology lacking • Attention on ‘structural change’ rather than on ‘personal transformation’ as well • JPIC focus on ‘out there’ rather than ‘in here’ • Neglect of ‘personal conversion’ processes • Some Promoters ‘activists’ rather than ‘animators’ • Negative perceptions of JPIC • Lack of creativity and imagination • Promoters and leadership unclear about JPIC

  8. Difficulties in JPIC Animation 7. Promoters received no training or orientation 8. Lack of continuity in JPIC animation 9. Need for Collaboration with other services not well understood. 10. In general, no JPIC plans developed in Religious Institutes 11. Many Promoters, until recently, were from the Minority world. 12. Disconnection from ordinary membership and leadership by Animators 13. Some animators have become embittered…

The importance of JPIC Animatioin • Focus of JPIC = restoration of ‘right relationships’ (God, oneself, others and creation). • Reminder – ‘preferential option for the poor’. • Integrity of Creation central to faith/mission in light of threats by greenhouse gas emissions to ecosystems. • JPIC = an ATTITUDE/APPROACH to how we live (lifestyle) and minister, and what we do.

  10. The importance of JPIC Animatioin 5. JPIC = 1 of 4 non-negotiable pillars of an authentic Christian Spirituality (R. Rolheiser) [prayer/morality; mellowness; community] • JPIC animation = like a Weathercock {reminder of ‘signs of times’} • Awareness of ‘negative perceptions’ [J/P in Communist Hungary]. Need for ‘renewed vision’. 7. JPIC Animation = 4 essential elements or 4 doors [ Experience; Social Analysis; Theological Reflection/Scripture/Charism; and Action] (Holland/Henriot) 8. JPIC Animator – helps his brothers/sisters find their own particular way of living and promoting JPIC values
