  1. Name: Year: Monday (Read Luke 21:1-19) Why were the two mites of the widow considered more valuable than the donations of the rich? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (2) Write v 14 in your own words. How can we apply this verse to our lives today? ____________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ He Retreated In Luke 21: 37 we read: “And in the daytime He was teaching in the temple, but at night He went out and stayed on the mountain called Olivet. St Cyril of Alexandria explains: “He stayed during the nights on the Mount of Olives, avoiding the uproars that were in the city, that in this He might also be an example to us. It is the duty of those who would lead a life quiet and calm, full of rest, to avoid as far as possible the crowd and hubbub.” The Lord constantly went to the quiet of the Mount of Olives during his ministry to pray. He did this not because He needed to, but simply as an example for us. We must daily remove ourselves from the noise of the world and sit in silence with God. Remember: His voice is still and small and if we can’t hear Him, it is because there is too much noise in our lives NOT because He isn’t talking to us! The Gospel of Luke Tuesday (Read Luke 21: 20-28) (3) From verse 7-28 we read about a coming destruction. But its a little confusing since some of the verses prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem (which was to happen in 70AD) while other verses refer to the end of days. For each of the verses below, write if it refers to the destruction of Jerusalem or the whole world (the second coming) Verse 20 ____________ Verse 22 _____________ Verse 25 _____________ Verse 27 _____________ Wednesday (Read Luke 21: 29-38) (1) How does the fig tree relate to the end of the world? ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (2) Write v34 in your own words. What does this mean practically for us? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

  2. Thursday (Luke 22:1-30) • What did Judas receive for betraying Christ? ________________________________________ • What did Jesus answer when the disciples asked where they should prepare the Passover? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ • Which Sacrament did the Lord institute on this day? _______________________________________ His Suffering In Ch 22: 41-44 we read a passage that has confused Christians for decades. Why was Christ praying for the cup to pass Him by? Why was He in so much agony if He really was God? Well, let’s ask St Ephrem the Syrian. “If it is possible, let this cup pass from me.” He said this because of the lowliness with which He had clothed himself, not in pretence, but in reality. Since He had really become unimportant and had clothed Himself in lowliness, it would have been impossible for His lowliness not to have experienced fear and not to have been upset. He took on flesh and clothed Himself with weakness. He ate when hungry, became tired after working, and overcome by sleep when weary…” Friday and Saturday (Luke 22:31 -71) In 38 we read that Jesus’ response when the disciples said “here are two swords” was “it is enough.” What are these swords? Why are we called to carry that which we cannot use? Well St Ambrose of Milan has a beautiful meditation. Fill in the blanks to find out what he said: “The disciples may have offered two swords: one of the ______ and one of the Old _______, with which we are armed against the ________ of the devil. Then the Lord says, “It is enough,” as if nothing is lacking to him whom the ________ of each Testament has _________” Strengthened Testament Deceit New Teaching The Gospel of Luke
