  3. What did we talk about last time?

  4. Community Base Working Group • Anne and Donna wanted to meet with Community Base Leads • Anne and Donna wanted to meet with transport managers • Sam passed on some requests for health information • Sue was going to ask her sister if Pleck have been joining in with the church’s activities

  5. We talked about taxis dropping people off safely. • Donna was going to offer places on a computer course to the bases • Sam found some easy read guides around losing a friend. These have been given to the bases. • Sam was going to invite Michael Hicklin to the meeting to tell us about Pinfold.

How we set about it Donna met Senior Support Workers to explain the plan Donna met Community Base staff to explain the plan Asked staff to explain plan to service users and elect two of them to attend 1 2 3 Identified support each representative needed Told representatives all about their role Donna met all representatives and introduced herself 5 4 6

What we have been doing so far Groups have been meeting now each month They have been feeding back what has been happening at their community base They have met with Michael Hicklin to talk about Pinfold Closure They have been talking about local councillors They have been asked to tell us how they are linking in with people in their community

Six month review The group has been running six months now and we have been able to identify what we need change and how we plan to do it. • Look at different communication tools and what is appropriate for each representative • Look at how we can support representatives to fulfil their role • Support to attend meetings • Commitment needed from representatives • How we can all work together to support representatives and development of the group • Identify how we can develop skills

Walsall Learning Disability Summer Scheme The aims are to: Offer four weeks of accessible activities in the summer Support people to engage with others and develop new friendships and interests. To provide respite to family and carers To build confidence and self esteem Community involvement and inclusion Provide opportunities to increase skills and learning developments

  21. Walsall Learning Disability Summer Scheme The Criteria: Do you have Learning Disability? Do you live in Walsall? Do receive no more than six hours commissioned care services? Aged between 18-65 years

Walsall Learning Disability Summer Scheme Starts Monday 26th July to Friday 20th August Operates Monday to Friday 10am – 3pm Will operate from Beechdale Community Centre Will have a fully accessible programme this will include: • Trips • Workshops • Educational Development • Activities • Sport and Fitness • Social Entertainment

  23. Stan Ball Centre

  24. Older People’s Project • The St Martin’s Project for older people will carry on, but meet less often. • Stan Ball will offer a service for adults over 55 two days a week. • Three days a week it will be a community base for adults with physical and sensory disabilities.

  25. Pinfold closure plans The timescale for the closure and reprovision of Pinfold is twelve to eighteen months Consultation is happening with service users Suggested new sites: Elmore Row and Blakenall Community Centre Arrange for service users to visit these places and decided which site meets their needs. Person Centred Planning Team have been working with Pinfold Service Users

  26. Stan Ball update Completion is on target for July / August opening It will be a multi-disability service The service will also provide opportunities to access other resources • It has been identified that it will provide service to: • YADS • L/D OVER 55 Years

  27. Goscote update The rehabilitation provision currently operating within Pinfold will re-operate from Goscote Capital Bid been secured to carry out work to remainder of building Consultation is currently being undertaken with architects Consultation is currently being undertaken with staff at both Goscote and Pinfold Proposal is to be submitted to Senior Management for approval

  29. Walsall Together • The website now has details of all the Community Bases on it. • If your base has any ideas about changing the information or adding some new things, please ask Sam. • The site has had over five thousand visits since January.

  30. National Carers Week • The next Fulfilling Lives meeting is only three weeks away. • It is in National Carers’ Week. • Shall we invite carers to the meeting to find out what they think about day services?

  31. Snap! Competition • Mencap are holding a photograph competition • The theme is ‘being active’ • The closing date is 21st June

  32. Next Meeting Thursday 17th June 2010, 10.30am – 12.30pm at Beechdale
