  2. Basic premises • University - ICT Industry relation is much more than just “joint projects” • We focus too much on industry’s short term motivations in relation to universities • University – industry relation is considerably influenced by governments • The strategic role of innovativeness is underestimated on majority of European universities

  3. Innovativeness and economic development

  4. Innovativeness and GERD

  5. Innovativness and spending on education

  6. Innovativeness and S&T graduates

  7. Innovativness and social values

  8. Innovativness and public interest in S&T

  9. Conclusions • Industry’s pragmatic objectives in relation to universities are innovations(they can buy it through joint projects) • Industry’s strategic objectives in relation to universities are innovative professionals(they will rise its “internal” innovativeness) • General innovativeness is shaped predominantly on the university level of education • Quest for innovativeness is not limited to S&T graduates • Innovativeness is based on personal capacity and social environment (therefore, governments’ role is not limited to stimulation of university-industry cooperation – they should also promote innovative social environment)

  10. Universities - ICT industry • ICT industry needs innovativeness even more than other industries • ICT industry also needs more innovative non S&T professionals
