  1. Si tracker R&D for LHCb Upgrade Some introductory notes Marina Artuso

  2. The work for LOI • Studies focused on the requirement of “intermediate tracking system” between VELO and outer tracker. • R&D work may apply to IT rebuild if Si option is chosen • Alternative technique considered: scintillating fibers

  3. The detector

  4. Our motivation was to identify a geometry that could optimize the intermediate tracking module (TT) to reduce the so called “ghost tracks” For the LOI quick studyto be extended for the TDR Parameters to be optimized segmentation, number of stations, location

  5. Highlights of the silicon option

  6. Sensor and electronics Sensor to withstand ~ 5x1014 neq/cm2, nin n or n in p technology, changing segmentation depending upon strip location on the plane. Back-end structure common to LHCb upgrade blocks/ synergy with VELO upgrade/strip option
