  3. Introduction • Smarter working includes: • Home working and remote working, • Flexible working and staggered hours, • Teleconferencing, videoconferencing (including tele-presence) and web conferencing • .... for the purpose of travelling to, and for, work.

WWF 1-in-5 Challenge: Baseline • Launched in July 2009 • Twelve companies and organisations including; Balfour Beatty, Lloyds TSB, BSkyB, BT, Microsoft, Skanska and Vodafone UK. • The Challenge community has committed to cut 20% of its business flights within five years and achieve a reduction in emissions. • The twelve members of the Challenge, represent over 335,000 employees, spent £98 million on business flights and took 521,000 flights.

  13. WWF 1-in-5 Challenge: Achievements • Over two years, the results show that WWF’s One in Five Challenge has helped to: • Cut 73,848 flights • Saved £21 million in avoided flights • Reduced flight kilometres by 92 million • Reduced emissions by 26,455 tonnes of CO2.

WWF 1-in-5 Challenge: How? • Questioning the need to travel; • Setting flight reduction targets; • Raising awareness of carbon emissions from flying; • Replacing flights with rail travel; • Including flights in corporate carbon reporting; • Increasing the use of video- and audio-conferencing.
