Today we will Graph Linear Equations

Today we will Graph Linear Equations. Graph = a visual of a set of ordered pairs on a grid. What is the ordered pair for the points below?. Complete the table. 3. y = 1 + 2. 4. y = 2 + 2. 5. y = 3 + 2. Linear Equation. An equation for which the graph is a line. Example:

  1. Today we will Graph Linear Equations Graph = a visual of a set of ordered pairs on a grid

  2. What is the ordered pair for the points below?

  3. Complete the table 3 y = 1 + 2 4 y = 2 + 2 5 y = 3 + 2

  4. Linear Equation An equation for which the graph is a line Example: y = x + 2

  5. Why is this important? • You can use this to solve real life problems (For example, when you are adding and subtracting from your bank account constantly) • This will help you with algebra • You HAVE to know algebra to get into college.

  6. Graphing Three Point Method 1. Choose 3 values for “x” and place them in a table. 0 1 2

  7. Graphing Step 2 Find solutions using table 3 (0,3) 0 Y = 0 + 3 1 4 (1,4) Y = 1 + 3 2 5 (2,5) Y = 2 + 3

  8. Graphing Step 3: Graph the points from the table (0,3) (1,4) (2,5)

  9. Graphing Step 4: Draw a line to connect them

  10. Let’s Try 5 y = 5 – 4 1 ( 5, 1) 2 6 y = 6 – 4 ( 6, 2) y = x – 4 1. Choose 3 values for “x” and place them in a table. 2. Find solutions using table 3. Graph the points from the table 4. Draw a line to connect them 7 y = 7 – 4 3 ( 7, 3)

  11. Let’s Try 0 y = 2(0) 0 ( 0, 0) 2 1 y = 2(1) ( 1, 2) y = 2x 1. Choose 3 values for “x” and place them in a table. 2. Find solutions using table 3. Graph the points from the table 4. Draw a line to connect them 2 y = 2(2) 4 ( 2, 4)

  12. Let’s Try 1 y = 1 + 5 6 ( 1, 6) 7 2 y = 2 + 5 ( 2, 7) y = x + 5 1. Choose 3 values for “x” and place them in a table. 2. Find solutions using table 3. Graph the points from the table 4. Draw a line to connect them 3 y = 3 + 5 8 ( 3, 8)

  13. What did you learn? • What is a linear equation? • Why is it important? • Solve and graph y = x - 2
