  5. Who are our clients ? Are they the students whom we enlist to serve with Rotary? Pre-Convention Youth Exchange Meetings -- Salt Lake City

Rotary recruits students • Underage high school students • Above average grades in school • Respectful and thoughtful of others • Have friends and involved with people • Flexible and tolerant of difficult situations • High degree of self confidence Pre-Convention Youth Exchange Meetings -- Salt Lake City

  7. Particpate in events and activities • Have a sense of community • Initiate rerlationships • Desire to learn more about the world community • Seek to learn and understand • Open minded (not judgemental) Pre-Convention Youth Exchange Meetings -- Salt Lake City

Rotary’s Selected Students • May or may not come from Rotary families • Have hormones flowing as they pass through puberty • Still need (want) the dynamics of home • Rely on mom’s love, nurture, support • Depend on dad’s discipline, leadership • Want independence from their parents Pre-Convention Youth Exchange Meetings -- Salt Lake City

Rotary’s Exchange Students • Represent their countries and cultures • Are expected to be young ambassadors • Leave all they have and know behind • Are “born” into a new country with a new language, a new culture, a new family, a new school, new friends, new food, new clothes, and new activities Pre-Convention Youth Exchange Meetings -- Salt Lake City

People associated with each student’s exchange • Commit to treating the students as their own children • Love and care for them • Are there for them when it is easy and not • Involve them in their lives and activities • Give them insights into their country and culture Pre-Convention Youth Exchange Meetings -- Salt Lake City

  16. Host Rotarians • Become their guardians • Welcome them into their clubs • Take them into their businesses • Introduce them into their communities • Include them in service projects • Guide them to become effective ambassadors Pre-Convention Youth Exchange Meetings -- Salt Lake City

  26. May I suggest - - - - • Both might be our clients. • But, the students are the bridge builders; • And, the people in two countries are the ultimate beneficiaries of each bridge that was built by a Rotary Exchange Student. Pre-Convention Youth Exchange Meetings -- Salt Lake City
