    3. 3 History During the late 1990s, this standard found its way into Sony electronics (mainly digital camcorders) under the title 'i.LINK'. In December of 1995, the IEEE released an official Firewire specification, IEEE 1394. sometimes referred as 'Firewire 400' or ‘IEEE 1394a’, In April of 2002, the IEEE released an updated Firewire standard, IEEE 1394b or 'Firewire 800'

    4. 4 Introduction Firewire is IEEE 1394 Standard define as a High Performance Serial Bus. It is similar to the first version of USB in many ways, but much faster. It provides high-bandwidth, high-speed data transfers.

    5. 5 Inexpensive Alternate to Parallel Buses Reduces cost. Provide fault tolerance. High speed bus with scalable performance.

    6. 6 Peer- to- Peer network with a point-to-point signaling environment. specific host isn’t required, such as the PC in USB. In Figure, the digital camera could easily stream data to both the digital VCR and the DVD-RAM without any assistance from other devices on the bus.

USB 2.0 – ARCHITECTURE FireWire, uses a "Peer-to-Peer" architecture in which the peripherals are intelligent and can negotiate bus conflicts to determine which device can best control a data transfer. Nearly all DV cameras have a FireWire interface (usually a 4-pin). The protocol also allows remote control (play, rewind, etc.) of connected devices.   NETWORKING OVER FIREWIRE Linux Windows XP

    22. 22 Advantages of Fire wire It provides speed and easy to implement. It is hot pluggable so no need to restart your PC when plugged or unplugged any device. No need to convert digital data into analog and tolerate the loss of data integrity. Due to high speed it delivers better performance with modern driver technology.

    23. 23 Disadvantages of FireWire Firewire port failure occurs due to loss of power from port or due to loss of data transmission from port. Consumers need to be aware of the connector styles before choosing cable assemblies. Limitations of FireWire

    24. 24 Future Enhancement future iterations of FireWire should bring a bump in speed to 6.4 Gb/s, use of single-mode fiber, and additional connectors such as the small multimedia interface.
