  1. Codes and conventions Merlin Bernardini

  2. Click to add texwhat are codes and conventions? Codes  are Codes are systems of signs, which create meaning. Codes can be divided into two categories – technical and symbolic. Technical codes are all the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story in a media text, for example the camera work in a film. Symbolic codes show what is beneath the surface of what we see. For example, a character's actions show you how the character is feeling. Some codes fit both categories – music for example, is both technical and symbolic. Conventions are Conventions are the generally accepted ways of doing something. There are general conventions in any medium, such as the use of interviewee quotes in a print article, but conventions are also genre specific. How codes and conventions apply in media studiesCodes and conventions are used together in any study of genre – it is not enough to discuss a technical code used such as camera work, without saying how it is conventionally used in a genre. For example, the technical code of lighting is used in some way in all film genres. It is a convention of the horror genre that side and back lighting is used to create mystery and suspense – an integral part of any horror movie. First!

  4. audio "Sound is important because it can tell us about character, place, and time. It's important because it informs us and moves us in ways visuals can't, and because certain combinations of sound and visuals can evoke what neither can do alone. It's also potentially important because it can help to determine what we see" In the short fiction film that I will be making, I will make sure to introduce both ways of sounds. Non-diegetic sound and diegetic sounds. This will happen because I'm sure in the middle of a scene there will be a certain noise that I don't want to be in the scene. I will try to cover that up with anything. background music or just lowering the background sound and only focusing on the character's voice. This is an example of non diegetic sounds and diegetic sounds, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_4hOY-9nKA&t=1s In that video it explains the sounds in movies, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd0kQLD7JS8

  5. Editing "Importance Of Editing In Film Production. Editing helps to put all the shots into a proper sequence so that the film comes out as a comprehensive whole unit. ... Post-Editing involves Color Correction as well that is actually a very important step in the complete process of film production and makes a huge difference." For this step I think  I will vary in terms of editing. But the majority of the film will be edited  in a simple editing technique. Cutting clips and joining the others. Althought I was thinking of doing some transitions later in the movie but that will depend on how I will film the scene. Color garding will be involve in this process or movie because I want to it to be night time in the movie at certain points. No special effects will be used because I don't think it would be appropriate for the movie that I have in mind.

  6. Light  "Lighting is important in video and film production because cameras do not respond to lights in the same way that the human eye does. ... The correct lighting can determine the mood of the scene and can evoke a more dramatic or subtle palette for the film." Lighting is very important in everything, not just in film s but also in photography.  I like make sure to solve any problems when it come to lighting. For example, the problem that I will be faced would be lights when it will be night time. Now obviously the right thing to do is to buy lights. However when you budget is very low and you want to me minimalist you think of something else than buying lights. The solution for the lighting problem, is that if I need for a night time scene I will actually film  at day time and just use premier pro to color grade the footage. I mean there is going to be scenes where it is going to be impossible to film without noticing that it is day time. But that will be a  thing to reconsider when I will be doing future project. Knowing my spots I little bit more.

  7. Other • Color grading is one thing that I will be using a lot in the movie. • I will also be doing an animation and a movie poster. • The use of photography gives an advantage for me because I do consider myself better at taking pictures than color grading clips. For this I will be using my own camera lumix sony GM800, Dslr. To really have the good quality. • For the animation and the movie poster, everything will be in a studio. Making sure that nothing bad can happen, in terms of equipment or people (crew)
