Dress codes

Dress code is an approved manner of garments that may be worn. This could apply for; clubbing, school and applying for a job. When applying for a job the dress code is an important factor. . The relevancy is also an important factor, you wouldn't wear a three piece suit applying for a role as the bar man at the local pub.

Dress code in the creative sector

  • Working in the media business, dress code still applies it may not be full piece suits and loafers but its not exactly ripped jeans and Nikes.

  • The image, media staff try and hold is to always to be neat and clean, and always professional. This means tattoos and piercing(excluding earrings) should be covered.

  • Although you get to stray from wearing suits, for men trousers and a jacket combination can work well, for women pencil skirts and blouse could work well too women tend to have more options from shoes and different trouser type, pending on the office environment it may fall between the lines of formal to smart casual.

  • Interviews at an media sector may be daunting but one way to look at it is the interviewee is a director and yore an actor auditioning, they wouldn't hire a unrehearsed actor in the film. So when attending an interview you must always make sure you’re prepared and in the next slide, will give advice on how to prepare for a media interview

Tips for media interview skills

  • Remember the vital basic interview skills such as ;

  • eye contact

  • preparing questions,

  • Researching companies background,

  • And never mention pay

  • Remember to stay relaxed but stay mentally alert

  • Before the interview try learn something your hosts interest are so if these topics come up in the interview, you can find something to relate and create natural banter

  • When doing a TV audition/interview make sure you do not have a defensive body language this includes; Folded arms, clenched fist and wringing hands

  • Interpersonal are skills we use everyday and are vital skills to getting an job

  • Verbal & non-verbal communication, so verbal and body language, this is being able to communicate with words and body language. Also listening skills so interpreting messages sent by others

  • Problem solving & decision making, this is where teamwork is essential able to work in a team to solve problems.

  • The different between skills and qualities, Skills is an ability you learn by practicing or training and a qualities is a characteristic or a feature of someone

    Planning and organizing is a skill whereas professionalism and work ethic is a quality.
