  13. Kit List • Clothes to travel in • Hand luggage: Should contain everything needed in the event of your main luggage being lost/ delayed (especially medication) and should be big enough to use for the 2-night safari excursion. • Main luggage NO VALUABLES Follow airline guidelines/ restrictions

  14. Security/ baggage restrictions Read the security advice and baggage tips on your hand out carefully and research further.

  15. Mobile phone/ internet use/ roaming charges Don’t get caught out – research thoroughly (phone service that you will have in Uganda and roaming/ data charges)

  16. Government advice/ news coverage/ guide books • It is advisable to keep up to date with travel advice: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/uganda • …and to take a keen interest in any news coverage, sharing anything interesting or important that you come across with your fellow travellers and teachers. • Seek out guide books (Bradt, Lonely Planet, Footprint) and complete online research before our trip in order to get the most out of your experience!

  17. Visit doctor Get organised- ring your GP to inform them of trip. Ask to book an appointment where you should discuss: • Best type of anti malarial tablets for you • Prescription for anti malaria tablets if necessary • Vaccinations • Ask you GP whether the vaccinations cause complications for any existing medication you are on.

  18. Yellow Fever • Nurse has been booked to come into school to give the yellow fever injection to all pupils- date to be confirmed • Each pupil will be given vaccination and certificate which will be kept by school.

  19. Other necessary injections Your doctor will probably advise you to get the following injections: • Typhoid (2-3 weeks before travel) • Hepatitis A (2 weeks before travel) • Diphtheria, tetanusandpolio (A booster dose is needed if it is longer than ten years since you last had a vaccine against these diseases.) • Your doctor might advise you to get additional vaccines. • Pupils should organise their own injections with their doctor.

  20. Anti malaria tablets Morrisonsseem to be the cheapest option: • Malarone-£47.42 per person for 19 tablets or • Doxycycline-£7.50 per pupil for 40 tablets • Your GP will advise you of the best option

  21. Date for your diary • Catherine Harold (school nurse) will be holding a session on Tuesday 10th December at lunchtime to advise pupils on vaccinations, how to stay safe. • All pupils are expected to attend this session.

  22. OSA2 form • Please collect an OSA2 form before you leave today which you should use to state any medical conditions you have, medication you are on, allergies etc. (Full disclosure is important for insurance purposes) • Please note these form require signatures from parents/guardians • Put completed forms in Miss Murray’s pigeon hole tomorrow (Friday). Any problems see Miss Murray asap • You should also collect a letter for your parents which will provide information about your visit to you local GP

  23. 3. Visas and passports We need to apply for a visa for you – you will provide the following: • One passport size photograph. • Passport valid for at least six months from the proposed date of entry (14thAug 2014). …and there is an application form to fill in. Alert us ASAP if you have any issues or concerns regarding passport validity/ visas.

  24. Flight Information • TK1968 Thursday 13th February 2014 Birmingham International (BHX) 11:15 – Istanbul (IST) 17:10 • TK 612 Thursday 13th February 2014 IST 18:40 – Entebbe (EBB) 04:10 • TK 606 Saturday 22nd February 2014 EBB 05:10 – IST 10:35 • TK1969 Saturday 22nd February 2014 IST 13:20 – BHX 15:30 Birmingham International’s advice is to arrive at least two hours prior to departure, but we will confirm a time and meeting location for Thursday 13th February at a later date.

  25. Research It is up to you to carry out research to prepare yourselves for the trip. You should consider researching the following: • What foods and drinks to consume/avoid • How to prevent sickness • Hygiene issues

  26. What to do next • Collect letter and OSA2 form before leaving today • Complete OSA2 form and return to Miss Murray tomorrow (Friday) • Ring GP to book appointment • Check passport date • Organise passport photo • Research
