Monday, November 11th PRE-AP Write the following vocabulary definitions on your own sheet of paper for the bellwork activity. 1. brute- (n, adj.) A cruel, coarse person. 2. considerate- (adj.) thoughtful of people's feelings; kind 3. exhale- (v) to breathe out 4. grudge- (n, v) To be resentful or envious 5. mutiny- ( n, v ) To rebel openly against authority. 6. structure- The framework or organization of a literary work. 7. style- Each writer’s distinctive use of language. 8. suspense- Elements that make the reader uncertain or tense about the outcome.

Water is a staple.) 11. sustain- (v) Provide with nourishment.   "We sustained ourselves on bread and water" 12. turbulent- (adj.) Characterized by being wild or disorderly. 13.vulgar- (adj.) disrespectful and displaying bad taste. 14. symbol- Any object, person, place, or action that has both a meaning in itself and that stands for something larger than itself. Ex: A crown is a symbol of a king’s status and authority. 15.synecdoche - A form of a metaphor where part is used to represent the whole. Ex: Bob got a new set of wheels.
