  2. Middle Kingdom Pharaohs could not keep up funds to continue the costly building of pyramids. The Pharaohs lost power to nobles for 160 years. Finally the pharaoh, Ahmose of Thebes, defeated his rivals, and reunitedEgypt. This began the period known as the Middle Kingdom.

  3. Middle Kingdom The Middle Kingdom was a period of order and stability. At the end of the Middle Kingdom Egypt started to fall back into disorder. The Hyksos, a group from Southwest Asia, invaded Egypt. Eventually the Egyptians fought back and took back control of Egypt. This began the era known as the New Kingdom.

  4. The New Kingdom The New Kingdom was the peak of Egyptian trade and military power. Egyptian leaders conquered large areas, including Kush, building their empire.

  5. The New Kingdom As the empire increase, trade increased. As trade increased, trade routes, or paths followed by traders, were developed. Queen Hatshepsut increased trade and used money from trade to support the arts and architecture.

  6. The New Kingdom Ramses the Great fought the Hittites. Neither could defeat each other.

  7. The New Kingdom The Tehenu tried to invade the Nile Delta, but Ramses defeated them. Ramses built forts to improve their defenses. The Tehenu tried to invade again, and were again defeated.

  8. The New Kingdom Sea People invaded Hittites in Southeast Asia. Only after 50 years of fighting could the Egyptians turn them away. Egypt survived this war, but its empire in Asia was gone. Egypt then fell into a time of disorder once again ending the New Kingdom.
