What is happening in iowa? • 2015 Legislative Session – 86th General Assembly • Child Care Facilities in Schools – Oversite from DE to DHS – January 2016 • $600,000 to continue “I Have A Plan Iowa” (IHAPI) for one additional year • School District Funding……. • House Republicans – Senate Democrats • As it sits – 1.25% allowable growth & $55.7 million in one time funding • Governor veto??? - $0 • House File 666

  18. What is happening in Iowa? – fcs teachers We have a shortage of FCS teachers!!! • Currently • 826 active folders with an FCS endorsement • 576 have an assignment – not necessarily in FCS Source: Board of Educational Examiners

What is happening in Iowa? – fcs teachers • 53 vacancies – Spring 2015 • 76 completed applications (1.4 applications / vacancy) – Teach Iowa • 14 conditional licenses were issued* • 6 of 14 – Class B Conditional Licenses (2 year – issued once) • 3 of 14 – Class E Extension (1 year – issued once) • 5 of 14 – Administrative Decisions – BOEE • Spring 2015 projected graduates: 14 Source: Board of Educational Examiners

What’s Happening at the Department? • The Department of Education, Division of Community Colleges, is seeking talented professionals interested in public service - 6 positions • Primary responsibilities • Providing CTE leadership and technical assistance to HS and CC • Working as part of a team to address current issues in CTE • Oversite of Federal Perkins Grant
