  2. TV in the Beginning • Most families in Canda owned a televison during the 1950s and 60s • Signals from the American networks were received by the majority of the population in Sountern Ontario • The American culture was flooding Canada and they were in fear of losing their new found identity

Canadain Broadcasting Corporation • In 1948 CBC received funding and permission from the Canadain government to creat a television station for Canada • 1952- CBC stations were set up in Montreal and Toronto • 1953- Staions added in Ottawa and Vancouver • 1954 – Winnipeg and Halifax were added to the CBC network

  4. Hit TV Shows of the 1950s and 1960s • I Love Lucy • Howdy Doody • Roy Rogers • The Ed Sullivan Show • The Wonderful World of Disney • Families would gather around their televiosions on Saturday nights and watch their faviourte preformers on The Ed Sullivan Show

  5. Hockey Night in Canda • Hockey Night was one of Canada’s number one radio shows • In 1952, people could watch Hockey Night in Canda on their televisions, instead of just listening to it on the radio

TV Dinners • The TV tray was a foldable table that allowed people to eat their meals infront of the TV so that they would not miss any of their favourite program • After the introducation on the TV tray, pre packages meals called, TV dinners were popular • They were packages in disposible aluminum containers • The dinners consisted of: an appitizer, main course and a dessert

  7. TV Dinners • TV dinners were east and fast, designed to go from the freezer to the table in 20 minutes • This made for more viewing time of the TV, and favourite programs not to be missed

  8. How it Changed Our Culture • After the television, Canada’s society became more convient; pre packaged meals were timesavers as well as cars getting people places faster • Kids became glued to the TV, they weren’t playing outside with the kids on the block like they used to
