  1. CANYON HS ARISTOCAT TRYOUTS

  2. Welcome! I am so excited to see that becoming a member of the Aristocats is a desire for all of you. My hope is that the audition experience is a positive one where each dancer improves and becomes stronger from the experience. I urge you to be open to learning new things and making new friends. Best wishes for a successful tryout week! - Mrs. Nebgen

  3. What You Need to Know • You may videotape the officers performing the tryout routine at 8:00pm on Monday, at the first day of workshop • We will make CD's for the candidates to practice with • The senior Aristocats will give your daughter feedback forms for her performance at mock auditions. These young ladies, while experienced Aristocats, are not professional judges. The comments written by the seniors will not necessarily reflect the judges' decision at tryouts. The feedback notes are meant to be encouraging and helpful to your daughter. • Your daughter will be very sore throughout the workshop week. Encourage her to lightly stretch at night, take warm baths, drink plenty of water, eat healthy, and take any over the counter pain reliever as needed. We recommend taking vitamins as well. • Tryout results will be posted approximately 30 minutes to an hour following the dismissal of the candidates. The list of the new team will be posted on the glass doors outside of the dance studio as well as online. • If your daughter makes the team, she is highly encouraged to attend the 'Now and Forever' ceremony. This ceremony will take place following new team announcements and will be in the studio. • If your daughter wants to see her score, she may contact Mrs. Nebgen for a copy of her score sheets.

  4. What TO Wear to Pre-Tryout Clinic Well-fitting and appropriate active wear Jazz shoes or paws (no socks) No jewelry Hair pulled back and out of your face

  5. What TO Wear to Mock Auditions & Tryouts • Have a clean black leotard or dance top, black hot shorts or tight black leggings (no stripes) • Fix your hair in a low, tight bun. You will want all of your hair out of your face. Use gel, hairspray, and bobby pins so that your hair is secure. • Do not wear jewelry! Only stud earrings are allowed. • Remove all colored nail polish. A French manicure is fine. • Don’t forget your make-up! Make it an accent, but do not let it overpower your appearance. • Each candidate will be required to wear bright/dark red lipstick at mocks & tryouts. An inexpensive tube from the drugstore will be fine. • Make sure to bring safety pins for the mock tryouts and tryout day to secure your number to your leotard.

  6. Important Reminders • Tryouts are closed to the public with only judges, tabulator, administrators, senior officers and candidates present. • Candidates will be judged in groups of 3 with scores given to each candidate individually, scores provided by the judges. • Anticipate a possible call back and be ready in case the judges want to see a group for the second time. • NO ONE will be allowed to tryout without a completed application on file with Mrs. Nebgen. • The new team for 2014-2015 will be posted approximately 30 minutes to an hour after the candidates are dismissed. The results will be posted on the glass doors outside of the dance studio, as well as online. • Do your best to convince the judges through your smile and performance how much you really want to be an Aristocat!

  7. Tips for Tryouts • Pace yourself! Don’t use all of your energy in the first few minutes. You are going to be in front of the judges for a while. • Look the judges in the eye. It shows confidence. • Smile and don’t forget to use facials. • Remember the skills order. • If you make a mistake, don’t show it. Pretend like it was supposed to be that way. • Relax and don’t forget to breathe. • Don’t think that just because you don’t have your skills perfect, you don’t have a chance. I promise, no one has every skill perfect. • Don’t let the judges intimidate you!

  8. BEST WISHES & GOOD LUCK!Love, Mrs. Nebgen & Miss. Davidson
