  5. State of Greek Institutions • Research via email, telephone and official websites • Responded 32 out of 38 institutions • Staff of HE Institutions • Libraries • IT centers • Publications’ office • Existing repositories

Results (p.1) • 14 / 38 already have an institutional repository • 34 / 38 organized IT centre • 24 / 38 organized publications’ office • 1 librarian at the International University of Greece • 1 computer scientist at the Technological Institute of Thessaloniki On the other hand: • 89 librarians at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki • 31 computer scientists at the University of Athens and University of Crete

  7. Deans of academic affairs • 38 Deans or Vice presidents of Academic Affairs • Questionnaires • 9 basic questions • 28,9% returned questionnaires

Results (p.2) • 64% of the responses came from institutions that already have an institutional repositories • All of the participants agree on the value of open access and the importance of free scientific information • 73% of the institutions encourage their employees to submit works to OA mediums • 73% of the institutions are willing to set up OA repositories • ALL of the institutions are willing to be part of a cooperative OA repository

  9. Results (p.2) • All participants state that OA institutional repositories should be funded • with extra state funds • Redistribution of existing funds • Voluntary services • Other means (i.e. advertisement)

  10. Conclusions • The value of Open access is generally admitted • The authorities are generally positively inclined to invest in Open Access Repositories • BUT Open Access is not free • Greek institutions can cover the minimum prerequisites • There is need for further investigation on how to cover expenses • Cooperation can save money
