  1. Homeless veterans are those people who have served in our armed forces and after discharge from duty living without access to secure and appropriate accommodation. From 2010 to 2019, the number of veterans without homes to homeless and injured veterans reduced by more than 50 percent.  According to latest reports released by the department of housing and urban development, the number of homeless veterans. How many US Veterans Faced the Homeless Problem in 2021?

  2. increased in 2020 after the effects of the corona virus pandemic. It also damaged financial resources and employment prospects badly for the community. The situation of veteran’s homelessness became worse in 2021 due to the after effects of pandemic. The people of United States were become more aware of this problem only after the Vietnam War. The main reasons behind veteran homelessness post-Vietnam War period were the lack of economic stability, economic hardships and proper community for homeless veterans.

  3. In addition, veterans from recent conflicts are also affected. According to estimates around 40,000 veterans are homeless on any given night which is the major problem that the country is facing and trying to address by using homeless veterans program USA.

Leading Causes of Veteran Homelessness There are several causes that lead to veteran homelessness some of them are discussed here: Mental Illness: Study shows that mental disorders are very common among homeless veterans. PTSD and Anxiety has been identified as the leading mental disorder among veterans. Such illnesses contribute to homelessness of the veterans after discharge from active duty. Unemployment: There are several studies which find that unemployment is one of the main factors that contribute to veteran homelessness. Veterans often face difficulty to get a job due to various reasons that may include mental or physical problems and substance abuse. Statistics show that unemployment is one of the main causes for veterans’ poverty and homelessness.

Lack of Support and Social Isolation As veterans have low marriage and high divorce rates, study shows that social isolation and lack of proper support like a good community for homeless veterans also increases the risk of homelessness among veterans. Substance Abuse: Substance abuse includes both alcohol and drug abuse, is one of the main factors of homelessness among veterans and causes difficulty in finding homes to homeless and injured veterans.
