  4. Why does the Food We Eat Travel so Far? • Very few of us eat seasonally-based diets • NAFTA has relaxed importation regulations • Foreign-grown produce is often more affordable than domestic produce • 10 MNCs control 50% of the American food industry

  5. What Can We Do About This? We can… • Join a CSA • Buy produce from farmers’ markets • Try to eat foods when they are in-season • To to eat fewer processed foods • Frequent restaurants that serve locally-grown foods • Ask local restaurants to serve more local food

  6. What Can We Do About This (continued)? We can also… • Take fewer trips to the grocery store • Learn to dry, jam and can • Plant a garden or join a community garden • Talk to political officials about food issues • Try to raise awareness about food issues
