Some Catholic Mass Terms • catholic translates to universal • Catholic means those Christians who follow Catholic teaching led by the Pope in Rome • Missa (Mass) means prayer • Celebrant (priest) comes from celebrate • Meal (gathering) to celebrate Good News! • Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. • Catholic Mass basic meaning: • prayer gathering

  5. People at Mass • Priest: celebrant • Lector: reader • Cantor: leads songs • Altar servers: assists priest • Choir: helps with singing • Liturgical dancers: praise dancers • Eucharistic Ministers: give communion • Congregation: people who came to Mass

After Mass Reflection • Look for 5 actions in the Mass that you have learned • See who is doing each action, and be able to describe each action; be specific • Reflecting on the first Mass of the school year, describe the most important action or words which had meaning for you from what you have learned about the Mass. • What part of your learning helped you the most during the Mass?
