Rethinking project management:the importance of Human Factors Projects and their contexts are becoming increasingly complex In order to understand projects and to be able to lead for success, we need to understand the role people play in projects To achieve project success, understanding the Human Factors in project management is crucial Research in to the Human Factors in project management to date has remained relatively small and un-coordinated
  3. What is the National Workshop Series (NWS)? Through the National Workshop Series (NWS), we aim to increase knowledge and understanding of Human Factors in Project Management The NWS consists of a series of eight workshops where project, program and portfolio practitioners and academics dialogue and discuss Human Factors in Project Management Each workshop focuses on a specific Human Factor during which participants offer their perspectives through carefully facilitated discussions Through this input and subsequent analysis, the NWS contributes to the future direction of research into the Human Factor of Project Management
  4. When and where are the workshops held? completed Doors open at 08:30, start at 9 am, finish around 5 pm (followed by networking & drinks)
  5. What is the format of each workshop? The program is designed after the following principles Active involvement from academics and practitioners Academics and practitioners as participative inquirers Two primary outputs aimed at academics and practitioners Each workshop follows the same basic structure Opening: rationale and structure for the meeting A presentation based on the current scientific literature on the specific Human Factor theme Industry perspective presentation ‘Turn the mike around:’ moderated group discussion Lunch Facilitated discussions with industry representatives Afterwards: networking drinks
  6. Who organises the National Workshop Series? The Netherlands offers a unique environment for catalyzing world-class project management research, enabling researchers to make a lasting and sustained contribution to the world’s project management community. The Dutch National Research Group (DNRG) has been created in 2013 to help realize this vision through the active support of Dutch-based research to drive practice in project management
  7. What happens after the NWS? The outcomes of the national workshop series will be presented to the global project management community at the IPMA World Congress of 2014 in Rotterdam, including: a research agenda on the Human Factors in PM a state of the science for each factor a platform bridging the gap between science and industry This will position the Netherlands as the go-to place for the Human Factor in project management
  8. Why participate in the NWS? Participants are on the front-row to shape the research agenda for the Human Factor Join a multi-disciplinary network of Project Management practitioners and academics Opinion leaders Key players and executives from industry and science Project executives (e.g. head of projects, project management or PMO) Experienced project managers Scientists that are heavily invested in Human Factors and project management
  9. Who is participating in the NWS? Participants represent many different industry sectors and all major project management disciplines.
