  9. 3 Refund Policies Dropping of Courses Students who intends to discontinue their programme of study at the University have to write-in formally to withdraw from the University. Students may apply to drop course(s) within the stipulated deadline. There is NO refund on the Resource and Services (R&S) Fee. Course(s) will not be recorded on student’s permanent academic record. Submit Form R-CW to the Regional Office. Submit Form R-DC to the Regional Office. Course(s) will be recorded with grade ‘W’. ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  11. 3 Refund Policies Deferment of Studies Students who have applied to defer studies must continue their studies until formal approval has been obtained. There is NO refund on the Resource and Services (R&S) Fee. The approved deferment period will lapse on the next offering of the same course(s). Submit Form R-DS to the Regional Office.   12. 3 Refund Policies Withdrawal from a Course A course withdrawal process is undertaken should a student miss the drop course deadline and unable to proceed with the course final examination. Submit Form R-CW to the Regional Office. Course(s) will be recorded with grade ‘W’. There is NO refund on Tuition Fees. ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  14. 4 Assessment The assessment for any course consists of two (2) components: Postgraduate Courses* (unless directed otherwise by Senate) Component Undergraduate Courses (unless directed otherwise by Senate) Continuous Assessment 50% 40% Final Examination 50% 60% * except Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  15. 4 Assessment The grade for a course is assigned based on the overall score, which combines both the continuous assessment and the final examination component. For MPWcourses (MatapelajaranWajib), a student must achieve an overall score of a minimum of Grade C in order to pass the course. For non-MPW courses, a student must achieve an overall score of a minimum of Grade D in order to pass a course. If a student has passed both components, the grade for the course will be accorded based on the overall course score. However, if a student fails either component, the highest grade that can be achieved is “C-“.   17. 4 Assessment Continuous Assessment – TMA Submission Deadlines Extension of TMA Submission Deadlines • Must apply for approval ONLINE • No extensionfor thelast TMA Eg: Level 100 & 200 courses = TMA 2 • If approved, TMA will be accepted for marking (marks will count).   20. 4 Assessment Continuous Assessment – TMA Late Penalty • Penalty Late submission of TMAs without prior approvals: 30% penalty of the marks awarded. The Course Coordinator reserves the right to reject the assignment in which case a zero score shall be given for the TMA. Reminder Seek prior approvals should you need to request for extension of TMA submission dates. ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  21. 4 Assessment Continuous Assessment – TMA Late Penalty Waiver (2) Exceptions New students are given one semester (only for first semester) grace period and shall be exempted from the 30% penalty ruling. The Course Coordinator reserves the right to reject the assignment in which case a zero score shall be given for that assignment. ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  22. 4 Assessment Continuous Assessment – TMA Online Resubmission • Students who wish to apply for the TMA re-submission must provide valid reasons and submit the application electronically through the OAS. • Manual request for TMA re-submission will no longer be accepted. • Students may apply for TMA re-submission only once. • The approvals for TMA re-submissions by your Course Coordinators are on a case-by-case basis. • Students who apply for TMA re-submissions are advised to check the OAS regularly for your Course Coordinator’s approval. • Upon approval you are allowed only the next 2 days to re-submit your TMA into the OAS.   23. 4 Assessment Continuous Assessment – TMA Plagiarism • Student shall not present work of others as his/her own work without acknowledgement … (refer to Student Handbook for more details) • Committed academic dishonesty: liable to proceedings and disciplinary action.   24. 4 Assessment Examination – Absence from Examination * Absent from exam without University’s approval is deemed to have failed the exam. ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  25. 4 Assessment Examination – Eligibility • You are eligible to sit for the examination if you have (regardless of the TMA performance):- • Registered for the course • Not been barred from the examination ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  26. 4 Assessment Examination – Misconduct A student alleged to have committed misconduct shall be liable to proceedings and disciplinary action. ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  29. 4 Assessment Examination – Eligibility to Re-sit A student who has attended the final examination for a course and obtained grade “F” will be given the opportunity to re-sit during the following supplementary exam. However, this option can only be EXERCISED ONCE at the next offering of the same course. No supplementary TMA will be offered. The highest overall score grade that can be achieved in a supplementary examination for re-sit attempt is grade “C-“, irrespective of students having passed both components eventually. However students who were granted "AR" status (absent from examination due to valid reasons accepted by the University) in the final examination, and sat for the supplementary examination, would be accorded the appropriate grade if they have passed both components, as this would be their first attempt in the examination.   31. 5 Graduation Requirements Requirements to Graduate - Undergraduate Meet the requirements of the chosen programme Achieve a CGPA of 2.00 and above Obtain at least 37 credits (GC), 70 credits (GD) or 120 / 123 / 125 credits (UG).   40. 6 Advanced Standing / Credit Transfer Undergraduate Programmes Credentials used should preferably be accredited/approved by MQA/LAN. 1 Maximum credit transfer policy is used even for the same credentials - 50% of the total credits towards any WOU Award [60 credits (Degree), 35 credits (Graduate Diploma) & 20 credits (Graduate Certificate)]. 2 ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  41. 6 Advanced Standing / Credit Transfer Undergraduate Programmes It is the University's policy that WOU students are required to undertake and pass at least 50% of the total credits required for their intended programmes in order to be eligible for the Awards. 3 All T&C regarding the dropping/withdrawal of course(s) and the associated refund policies of the University still apply. NO REFUND of tuition fees for courses that have been eventually exempted. 4 ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  42. 6 Advanced Standing / Credit Transfer POST graduate Programmes Credentials used must at least be at the post graduate level or equivalent & MQA/LAN accredited/approved. 1 Total credit transfer shall not exceed 12 credits towards any named WOU postgraduate degree, except for qualifications from the COL consortium where 50% BCT credits may be allowed. 2 ORIENTATION—JANUARY 2013—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC
