  3. What are the changes? • Elimination of 1-4% overload permits • Effective 1/1/13 ONLY 5% can be purchased for $250.00 • 46.2-1129still applies for Virginia farm or forest products. 84,000lbs gross weight is now spelled out.

Gravel, Sand, or Crushed Stone Permit Specific Conditions • Gravel, sand, or crushed stone permits are only valid in counties that impose a severance tax on coal and gases as authorized by § 58.1-3712, the weight limits prescribed in subsection B of this section shall also apply to trucks hauling gravel, sand, or crushed stone no more than 50 miles from origin to destination. …

  6. Farm animal feed permits –(46.2-1144.2)$130.00 Only for specially designed five-axle semi-trailer combo with bulk feed compartments & at least 51 feet of axle spacing between first and last axle

  7. Overweight annual permits • Now • $280.00 for 2 years • 01/01/13 • $1,000.00 for 2 years

Multiple Axle Groupings • Maximum Gross Weight: 115,000lbs • Minimum Wheel Base: 64ft • Minimum # of Axles: 7 (will not say…single-tri-tri-groupings) • Single (maximum) 24,000lbs - Tandem (maximum) 44,000lbs • Tri (maximum) 54,500lbs • Quad (maximum) 64,500lbs Why? To avoid multiple permits. $$$

  9. Escort requirements(on permit) • 12’1” to 14’0” wide: One front and one rear escort required on non-interstate routes. • 12’1” to 14’0” wide: One rear escort required on interstate routes. • 85’1” to 100’0” long: One rear escort required on non-interstate routes. • Law enforcement wanted this section to be boxed off under the weights. • Why? To avoid multiple permits. $$$
