Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare A focal ministry for the policy, panning, programming of overall development and coordination of all activities related to women, children and social welfare including senior citizens, orphans, helpless women and disabled and handicapped people MWSW established in September 1995 after Beijing Conference Renamed as MWCSWin October 2000 Two Divisions: Policy, Planning and Administration Division Women, Social Welfare and Child Development Division It has 8 sections under these Divisions Also Department of Women Development  Women development office in 75 district Social Welfare Council (an autonomous body) Women Skill Development Center Central Child Welfare Board National Level Coordination Committee District Level Task Forces in 26 prone districts

Main Goal : • To empower women on the basis of gender equality and bring them into mainstreaming of development. • Area of Responsibility : • Formulation and implementation of plans and policies concerning women, children and social welfare • Studies, research, survey, training, national and international seminars and conferences • Coordination and liaison with national and international organizations • Protection and promotion of orphans children, destitute women, aged, disabled and incapacitated persons • Child welfare functions • Social Welfare Council • Women Skill Development Center • Social Welfare Centers • Bal Mandir (Children Welfare Centers) • Coordination, management and national & international NGO and liaison of youth hostels • Adoption related functions

Gender & Development Activities and Priorities of the Ministry • Develop national women development policy and unit it in national development policy • Help various women development programs • Arrange for the allocation of enough budgets for women development from national development budget and development donations • Involve women in every sphere of life in the policy making and decision making system • Work towards removing obstacles in women's development and improving legal, administrative and policy level • Advocate for women empowerment • Arrange for training and discussion programs at the national and grassroots level • Bring positive discrimination for women upliftment • Review, monitor, evaluate and coordinate all women development activities carried out by government and non-government sectors • Institutionalize women empowerment process
