Murray Avenue • Process for Selecting Materials • Site visitations • Committee contacted numerous publishers and spoke to consultants • Committee received program samples and textbooks for analysis and evaluation in accordance to district goals and state standards • Committee previewed technological components of programs • Committee chose possible programs to meet with consultants for further information

Murray Avenue • Process for Selecting Materials Continued • Committee selected two programs to pilot for World History (Grade 6 & 7) • Holt: World History • McDougal Littell: Survey of World History • Committee selected two programs to pilot for US History (Grade 8) • Prentice Hall: US History • Holt: US History Beginnings to 1877

High School • Process for Selecting Materials • Department met in spring to discuss goals • Each teacher or team selected materials to review over the summer • A chapter was selected from at least two textbooks for piloting • Chapters were piloted in classrooms • Teachers evaluated strengths and weaknesses of piloted materials • Interdisciplinary teachers met with English counterparts to discuss selecting literary materials to pilot

High School • Reasons for Materials Selected • Updated editions of currently used textbooks • Quality of ancillaries • Availability and quality of online edition • Level of recommendations for differentiated instruction • Alignment with PA standards • Compliance with College Board for AP materials • Positive student feedback and learning outcomes
