  2. INTRODUCTION • IN ANSWER TO THE LAWYERS QUESTION, MANY OF US WOULD ASSUME THAT THE CORRECT ANSWER WOULD BE ONE LIVING OR LOCATED NEAR ANOTHER. BUT JESUS TAKES IT IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION. IN HIS STORY, JESUS ILLUSTRATES A COMPLETE STRANGER SHOWING COMPASSION AND MERCY IN GIVING AID TO A FELLOWMAN IN NEED.

  3. WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR? • THE ONE WHO IS HELPFUL IN TIME OF NEED- PROV. 27:9-10; LUKE 10:36-37 • THE ONE WHO SHOWS INTIMACY, AS IN COMPANIONSHIP-LUKE 15:6,9 • THE ONE WHO IS SINCERE AND PURE- PROV. 3:28-29; 14:20-21; ROM. 13:8-10; 15:2; EPH. 4:22-29

  4. TO LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF • HOW DO I LOVE MYSELF?- EPH. 5:29 “FOR NO MAN EVER YET HATED HIS OWN FLESH; BUT NOURISETH AND CHERISHETH IT, EVEN AS THE LORD THE CHURCH.” • WHAT IS LOVE?- 1 COR. 13:1-7

  5. WHY DID THE PRIEST AND LEVITE DO NOTHING? • MAYBE IT WAS FEAR • OR A LACK OF COMPASSION • OR JUST TOO BUSY
