  1. Novartis Chem Ops Grimsby & Pharm Ops HorshamPower network simulation and analysis EUR 60k Initial project value Solutions implemented: • Analysis of power distribution network at both sites • Steady state modelling of network using PSS Sincal software • Assistance with development of 5 year plans • Development and costing of options for future expansion Novartis was created in 1996 through the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz. The name, derived from the latin novae artes, means "new skills" and reflects Novartis’s commitment to bringing new healthcare products to patients and physicians worldwide. Chemical operations for Novartis are based in Grimsby on the river Humber.  Chemical operations involve the manufacture of intermediate and drug substances for a range of pharmaceuticals.PharmOps is based at the Horsham site.  Active ingredients from Novartis sites around the world are converted here into around 60 different types of Novartis tablet formulations, in over 1,000 final pack presentations, for more than 100 markets around the world. Siemens Groups involved: • PTD PTI • Future potential for PTD, PG and A&D • Project goal: • Initially, to allow both Novartis sites to document the current status of their power networks. Documentation of fault levels is a legal requirement • Final output will be simulation of options for increasing power network capacity of both sites • Value to customer: • The PTI study will give Novartis a much greater understanding of the status of their power distribution networks • Novartis will be able to plan the expansion of their networks in order to cope with greater production levels. They will be able to choose the correct options for expansion with total confidence • The future: • At Grimsby, options for expansion include a new CHP turbine and a new HV substation. • At Horsham, a completely new CHP station is under consideration • All the above options represent considerable potential (c12m EURO) for Siemens
