  6. Materials Needed • 1 subject composition book • 1 inch binder to keep writing in • Pencils and Blackor Blue Pens • Flashdrive

  7. Grading System • Reading Comprehension and Analysis – 40% • Written Expression – 40% • Grammar and Vocabulary – 10% • Diverse Media Analysis – 10%

  8. Extra Help Opportunities I am available to offer extra help, clarification of assignments and study help for quizzes, tests, and Writing to students: • Before School Each Day from 8:15-8:40

  9. Homework • Have them e mail me with questions • Homework can be expected 4 times a week • Consists of 1 essay every other week and possibly some reading.

  10. Literature Overview My Goals • Aid Comprehension of fiction and non fiction • Increase vocabulary • Help them analyze what they are reading • Increase their appreciation of reading

  11. Writing • 5 paragraph paper about every other week • This teaches them the writing process • They will become better writers through this practice • Weekly feedback from me about their writing

  12. Weekly Writing • Monday – Prewriting in class. Start Rough Draft • Tuesday – Finish Rough Draft • Wednesday- Revising/ Editing • Thursday- Write Final Copy • Friday- Hand it in

  13. Textbooks • Prentice Hall: Literature • Prentice Hall: Writing Coach Class set available in room. They are available on line. Let me know if you want one for home.

  14. Ways to Help Your Child Be Successful • Ask them about what they are reading • Let them see you reading • Have them read their writing to you • Help them revise and edit their essays • Encourage them to e mail me with their problems
