  3. However, the transition to college academic and social life often provides challenges. The University of Maryland provides a number of resources, programs and offices to support you and your student academically at Maryland.

Counseling Center • Learning Assistance Services (LAS) • Disability Support Services (DSS) • http://www.counseling.umd.edu • Free to all students • LAS works to strengthen skills and improve academic performance. • Academic Counseling Sessions • Learning Strategy Courses (EDCP 108B and EDCP 108M) • Critical Reading and Writing Consultations, Workshops and Credit Courses • Math Learning Specialists • Guided Study Sessions • Peer Assisted Learning Sessions • DSS coordinates services and resources that ensure students with disabilities equal access to UMCP programs. • Direct services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors with specific disabilities and needs • Educate and inform the university community • Provide opportunities to students, faculty and staff with disabilities to gain skills necessary to effectively advocate for themselves within the community

Math Success • A service provided by The Department of Resident Life & a grant from the Maryland Parents Association • http://www.reslife.umd.edu/programs/math_success/ • Free to all students • Math Success programs helps students with solving their math problems and reinforcing strong study skills and decrease anxiety in math courses. • Math 001 (review high school algebra) • Math 002 (review high school algebra) • Math 113 (college algebra) • Math 115 (college pre-calculus) • Oakland Hall Academic Enrichment Center, Ground Floor • Sunday – Thursday from 6:00pm-9:00pm • Monday/Wednesday: Collaborative Study Groups for Math 140 from 6:30pm-8:00pm • Tuesdays: Collaborative Study Groups for Math 220 from 6:30pm-8:00pm No registration, no appointments needed, no fees, just math assistance!
