  1. Engineering Sunday, 05 January 2020

  2. Complete a pie chart that shows how much electricity you think is produced by each method in the UK:

  3. Could this be improved?

  4. TEEP Agree the Learning Outcomes Learning Objectives To understand the work of an engineering company: Tesla

  5. Learning Outcomes Progress – Identify the type of work that an engineering company does. Good Progress – Describe the type of work that an engineering company does Exceptional Progress – Compare and contrast the type of work that an engineering company does

  6. Tesla Tesla, Inc. (formerly Tesla Motors), founded in 2003, is an American multinational corporation based in Palo Alto, California, that specializes in electric vehicles, lithium-ion battery energy storage and solar panel manufacturing. As of June 2018, Tesla sells the Tesla Model S, Model X, Model 3, Powerwall and Powerpack batteries, solar panels, solar roof tiles, and related products.

  7. Products Airbus produce a limited range of products: • Cars • Such as the Model S, Model X, Model 3 and the Roadster. • Energy • Such as their Powerwalland Powerpack batteries, solar panels and solar roof tiles. However, Tesla and founder, Elon Musk, are involved in other new projects: • Hyperloop • A superfast train system that can efficiently transport people and goods. • SpaceX • A project to produce spacecraft with the goal of reducing space transportation costs and enabling the colonisation of Mars.

  8. Organisation Tesla has 37,543 employees (2017 figure) It’s headquarters is in Palo Alto, California, USA and it has several factories in the USA. Tesla are planning to increase production with factories in Europe and China. It also operates car showrooms in several countries around the world.

  9. Cars & Energy Tesla only produce electric cars, and their energy systems are able to power them using solar power. By 2040 the UK government would like to no longer have cars powered by petrol & diesel, this will mean that cars powered by electricity are likely to become more and more common. Tesla’s energy systems are designed to power an entire home as well as cars.

  10. Hyperloop Tesla’s founder, Elon Musk, is a businessman who initially began development of Hyperloop. The idea is to create superfast train that can travel through a vacuum tube. By removing the air their will be no air resistance, this will let the train go faster and use less power. The system is now being developed by other companies such as Virgin and HTT. https://youtu.be/LAWEOwDDt_Y

  11. Write a fact file about Tesla, include the following topics: • Products they produce • How many people they employ, and where. Later you will add: • The different jobs that Engineers and others who work for Tesla do. Use the following resources to help you find this information: • Printed copies of the slides • www.airbus.com • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus#Organisation • BTEC Level 1/Level 2 Tech Award Engineering Student Book

  12. Progress – Identify the type of work that an engineering company does. Good Progress – Describe the type of work that an engineering company does Exceptional Progress – Compare and contrast the type of work that an engineering company does
