Virology Program • Culture and identification of viruses from tissues and fluids • Rapid Respiratory Virus testing by Direct Fluorescent Antibody testing • PCR, Luminex respiratory virus testing (Influenza A, B, Parainfluenza 1,2,3 , Adenovirus and 14 others) • Rapid HSV centrifugation-enhanced plate typing test • Tissue culture for other viruses • SARS, pandemic Influenza by culture and molecular (PCR) methods • Electron microscope

Virology Program • Viral Serology for: • Hepatitis A,B, C • Hepatitis genotyping by (PCR) • HIV • Parvovirus • Epstein Barr, Cytomegalovrius • Measles, mumps • Herpes (Type Specific) • HIV and other viral markers for the Organ Donor Programs (Eye Bank of BC, BC Transplant Society) • Prenatal screen panel for HIV, Rubella, Hep B Surface Antigen

Zoonotic Emerging Pathogens • Testing for diseases transmissible from animals to man (zoonoses) • Vector-Borne diseases: Lyme disease, West Nile virus, Relapsing Fever • Emerging Pathogens: Syphilis screening and confirmation, Helicobacter pylori • Unusual bacterial, fungal and parasitic serologies • Reference services and field studies for zoonotic outbreaks • Molecular diagnostics for WNV in mosquitoes, syphilis and Borrelia Hanta Virus
