    13. UNEP Division of Technology, Industry & Economics Concerned global consumers Consumers are overwhelmingly aware of the effects that their consumption patterns have on the environment. Ninety-percent of those surveyed alleged that they were conscious of this link. A subsequent inquiry into the level of concern produced the following results: An average of 60% of consumers declared that they were concerned very much or quite a lot. The three developing cities – Sao Paulo, Bombay, and Lagos – recorded high levels of concern. Over 60% of consumers in all three cities suggested that they were highly concerned about current practices. Thirty-three percent of consumers surveyed in Sao Paulo said they were ‘very much’ concerned, while a further 41% considered they were worried ‘quite a lot’ about the effects their consumption habits were having on the environment.
