  1. Welcome to OA State Convention 2013 Service Workshop

  2. OA Service Workshop 1. OA Hierarchy 2. 1st things 1st 3. Working with others 4. The right fit 5. Levels of Service (bingo)

  3. OA Hierarchy

  4. Step 12 Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry the message to compulsive overeaters and to practice these principals in all our affairs *********** Steps are there for suicide prevention

  5. What Step 12 offers Key Word: Service **************** Promise: Freedom from the lack of purpose The steps are for suicide prevention

  6. Primary Purpose Our real purpose is to fit ourselves to be of maximum service to God and the people about us. Big Book pg. 77

  7. We All Have Something to Offer HP doesn’t call those who qualify; He qualifies those He calls.

  8. Food for Thought Service is the rent we pay to be on this earth. ********* We are wounded healers.

  9. Ask what needs to be done… Then do it

  10. Saying yes to service is saying yes to recovery. If not you: who? If not now: when?

  11. Setting Boundaries

  12. Remember Setting boundaries is not about setting up brick walls. ****** Assertive vs. aggressive

  13. Working With Others Besides, we have stopped fighting anybody or anything. We have to! (BB, pg. 103) ************** Principles before personalities

  14. Remember: 1st Things 1st If we are not of service to ourselves; We cannot be of service to others.

  15. Just Think If we keep doing what we have always done; we will get what we have always gotten. ************ Translation: if nothing changes…nothing changes!

  16. Seek Balance

  17. Simply put… Trust HP… Clean house… Help another overeater

  18. Together We Can

  19. We Program This is a disease of isolation. (we care list) ********* We may be the only Big Book someone will ever see.

  20. The Right Fit

  21. Mentoring When all else fails, follow directions. ******* Keep on going. If you run into a brick wall; turn left. (anon)

  22. Service as a Tradition Tradition #8 OA should remain ever nonprofessional, but our service centers may employ special workers. ************ Traditions are there for homicide prevention

  23. Remember We use tradition #8 not to work step #12, but to help the 12th step work better for us. (AA, 12x12) *********** The money motive is the wrong motive. (AA 12x12)

  24. Note to Self You cannot keep what you don’t give away. ******** We give freely that which we have been given for free.

  25. Service: the Tool Any form of service that helps reach a fellow sufferer adds to the quality of our own recovery. ******** Members can give service by getting to meetings, putting away chairs, putting out literature and talking to newcomers. ******** Beyond the group level, a member can serve as intergroup representative, committee chair, region representative or Conference delegate. ********** As OA’s responsibility pledge states: “Always to extend the hand and heart of OA to all who share my compulsion; for this, I am responsible.”

  26. Reality Check If no one steps up; perhaps it does not need to be done. ************ Have problems getting people to help in your meeting?.... Time for a group inventory? (pgs 175-176, OA 12X12) *************** Old timers: put the keys, checkbook, &/or format on table as you leave.
