  3. Hard Hat Exemption You may be exempt from the requirements to wear a hard hat, however, you will be required to obtain a “Certificate of Exemption”. Basically, if your head meets the Australian/New ZealandStandard for head protection you do not need a hard hat. Contact the Safety Coordinator to schedule you for testing at the earliest possible time. Slide courtesy of safteng.net

  4. Hard Hat Exemption Upon completion and passing the five-part test you will receive a beautiful embossed certificate, suitable for framing, identifying your head as conforming to AS/NZS 1800:1998. You also will receive a wallet-sized card stating your certification. You must carry this card with you at all times.  Slide courtesy of safteng.net

  5. Hard Hat Exemption The testing procedures consist of the following: • A 24-hour water immersion test. Maximum permitted absorption is 0.5% by weight. Free breathing air will be supplied. • An impact test, while laying horizontally, with your head resting on a 20mm steel plate, a 4 kg steel ball will be dropped several times from a height of 15 metres. You will pass if there is no damage to your head. Slide courtesy of safteng.net

  6. Hard Hat Exemption The testing procedures consist of the following: • Your head will be subjected to a variety of acids, solvents, oils, and industrial gases. You must pass with no deformities or obvious color change. • To determine fire resistance, your head will be subjected to a propane torch for five minutes. If it is only slowly burning, you may achieve a class A rating, however, if there are any holes in your head on completion of test, you will be restricted to a class B rating. 7. Hard Hat Exemption The testing procedures consist of the following: • For the final test, you must sustain 2,200 volts AC, 50 Hz, for three minutes with leakage current not exceeding 9 milliamps. Breakdown threshold has been established at 300,000 volts. Slide courtesy of safteng.net

  8. Hard Hat Exemption If you don’t feel qualified, do not despair... Although not as attractive as your hair-do, your hard hat does meet all of the above requirements. Remember, unless your head has been duly certified, you must wear your hard hat all the time, when required by Company policy. Slide courtesy of safteng.net
